Hope for Community Development receives $10,000 from TD Bank Group

This funding will enable Hope for Community Development to strengthen the business sector and outcomes for Black and racialized young entrepreneurs between ages 16-35 in the Kitchener-Waterloo region.

Kitchener, Ontario, Canada

Hope for Community Development has been awarded the TD Ready Commitment Fund from the TD Bank Group in the amount of $10,000 to support its “ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM” that will expand and provide different types of tailored professional skills development and entrepreneurship programming streams to assist aspiring and established professionals to enhance their capabilities, support their families, grow their businesses and professional initiatives, and further contribute to society. TD Bank Group is an exclusive Financial Institution sponsor of the Hope for Community Development Entrepreneurship Program.

The funding comes from TD Ready Commitment’s funding stream which invests in change to create conditions so everyone has the chance to succeed in a changing world and contribute to making the world a better, more inclusive place.

TD Ready Commitment funds provide supports to community-based organizations, and projects focused on improving the wellbeing of communities. TD believe change is a fact of life. It can renew our perspective of the world or how we act within it. While change helps some of us get ahead, it can leave others behind. TD identified what they call the Four Interconnected Drivers of Change, because they believe when addressed together, they can help people feel more confident about their future. As part of their research, they also identified focus areas and goals under each driver that will help guide the types of programs and initiatives they will support. TD is targeting C$1 billion by 2030 towards community giving in four areas that support change, including Financial Security, Vibrant Planet, Connected Communities and Better Health.

It is a known fact that most entrepreneurs struggle when it comes to starting a business. 20% of small businesses fail in the first year. Most entrepreneurs require business/financial planning skills, provide business mentorships and networking opportunities so that their businesses can move forward. Hope for Community Development Entrepreneurship program gives promising entrepreneurs access to resources and skills providing the best chance for the success of their businesses. We believe when businesses succeed, the economy improved.

With this fund, Hope for Community Development will support approximately 25-50 aspiring or established entrepreneurs in the Kitchener-Waterloo region in the province of Ontario through monthly training and educational workshop sessions as well as research to increase access to financial support that will help build employable skills and support entrepreneurs.
