Sports and Recreation

Hope for Community Development Sports and Recreation programs are created to support healthy lifestyles, skill building, and social-emotional competencies for black youth in grades 6-12. Through participation in meaningful physical activity and creative arts, youth learn strategies to overcome challenges, build relationships and make healthy choices.

 

All programs are free for all participants.

Online Health And Fitness

Hope for Community Development’s Youth Online Health and Fitness Program is designed to promote the qualities needed to live a healthy lifestyle, skill building and social-emotional competencies for black children and youth in grades 3-12. The program gives attendees the opportunity to participate in meaningful physical activity and mindfulness exercises from the comfort of their home. In this program, participants learn strategies to overcome challenges, build relationships and social confidence, as well as make healthy choices.

The program is delivered by a trained facilitator through the Zoom video platform, once a week for two hours. Participants spend their time taking part in mindfulness exercises, icebreakers, cardio exercises, positive affirmations, dance fitness, and basic yoga.

 

If you would like to support this program, financial contributions to purchase technology and basic workout equipment for participants is welcomed.

Basketball

Hope for Community Development’s Youth Basketball Program is a co-ed program promoting the qualities needed to live a healthy lifestyle and skill building for newcomer and marginalized black youth from the ages of 14-29. The program is built to help attendees develop basketball skills in a non-competitive environment through use of scrimmages, skill based training, and team building activities aimed at encouraging healthy self-esteem & positive social interaction.

The program is delivered at local gyms, once a week for 90 minutes. Participants spend their time taking part in team building exercises, skill building activities like ball control, shooting, passing and dribbling, participating in a scrimmage and closing their session with a cool down and stretch.

 

If you would like to support this program, financial contributions to purchase equipment such as basketball balls, t-shirts, training equipment and snacks is welcomed.

The Youth Basketball Program runs from March to September. Registration is now open. Please click the link to register.

Soccer

Hope for Community Development's Youth Soccer Program is led by committed facilitators and volunteers promoting the qualities needed to live a healthy lifestyle and skill building for newcomer and marginalized black youth from the ages of 10-29. The program is built to help attendees develop soccer skills in a non-competitive environment through use of scrimmages, skill based training, and team building activities aimed at encouraging healthy self-esteem & positive social interaction.

The program is delivered at local parks, once a week, for 120 minutes. Participants take part in fundamental drills in ball control, shooting, passing and dribbling, participate in a scrimmage and close their session with a cool down and stretch. If you would like to support this program, financial contributions to purchase equipment such as soccer balls, t-shirts, training equipment and snacks is welcomed.

The next session of the Youth Soccer Program runs through December 2022 to June 2023 .

Art

Hope for Community Development’s Youth Art Program is an exploration of art through creative self reflection using different art mediums such as photography, pottery and painting for youth from the ages of 5-29. The program is built to help attendees develop to apply the creative process to produce a variety of two and three-dimensional art works, using elements, principles, and techniques of visual arts to communicate feelings, ideas, and understandings.

​

The program is delivered at local parks and programming spaces, once a week for 90 minutes where participants spend their time learning about the topic of the day, participating in skill building activities and sharing their work with classmates.

 

If you would like to support this program, financial contributions to purchase equipment and supplies such as clay, paint, snacks, art supplies is welcomed.

 The next session of the Youth Art Program runs through the month of December 2022.
